Welcome to the 2nd National Mental Health Conference!
One in five Canadians over the course of their lives can experience mental illness in one of its many manifestation. What that ultimately means is that every single family in Canada has in some way been affected by mental illness. And yet the reluctance to talk about it, to acknowledge it openly, to treat it as a form of human suffering like any other illness, relates in part to how threatening this set of illnesses is to our sense of who we are. In Canada, seven in 10 people with a mental illness do not receive treatment.
This is the second national mental health disorders conference sponsored by the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba developed to help combat this problem and reduce the stigma around mental health issues. The first Conference, held March 2011, attracted over 200 delegates. This forum proved to be one of the best events in Canada to bridge the knowledge gap and hear from leading thinkers on today’s most prevalent mental health issues. We anticipate even greater success this year.
With its minimum of 16 workshops plus Keynote Presentations and Plenary Sessions, an invaluable amount of knowledge sharing is available to you all in one space. Additionally, there are six Pre-Conference Workshops offered on March 13.
